Honors College Appoints New Interim Dean

Magda Castineyra was appointed as the interim dean of The Honors College at Miami Dade College in August.

Castineyra, 60, who served as the Honors College director at the Eduardo J. Padrón Campus for the past eight years, will oversee the program’s cohorts at Homestead, Kendall,  Padrón, Wolfson and North Campus.

“I’m very grateful,” Castineyra said. “I was ready to work in the Honors College from a wider lens than just one campus.”

She started working at MDC in 1997 as the assistant to the dean of theater at New World School of the Arts. A year later, she became the assistant to the campus president at Medical Campus, a position she held until she transferred to North Campus in 2001 to work as the director of the new student center until 2006.

For the next six years, Castineyra served as the director of undergraduate admissions at Barry University. The following year she was named the interim associate dean at Broward College-South where she served until 2014.

Castineyra obtained her bachelor’s degree in English from St. Thomas University in 1984. Five years later, she earned her master’s degree in education with an emphasis on administration, planning and social policy from Harvard University.
