AXIS and Miambiance Named Finalists For Crown Award

Miamibiance, the literary arts magazine at Kendall Campus, and AXIS, the creative arts magazine at North Campus, were named finalists for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Crown Awards in the college literary magazine category on  Dec. 13.

Winners will be announced at Columbia University’s 100th Annual Spring Convention in New York on March 15.

The Crown Awards recognize overall excellence in digital and print student publications. Finalists are awarded with a Gold Crown, which is the highest distinction, or a Silver Crown, for work produced during the 2022-2023 school year.

Since its inception in 1989, Miambaince has garnered four Silver Crowns for Volumes 25, 26, 30 and 31. It is currently nominated for Volume 33, whose theme surrounds food and the culture that surrounds it.

“To be a finalist is a prize in and of itself,” said Megan Carrion, Miambiance’s Editor-in-Chief.

AXIS was founded in 2004 and was awarded a Silver Crown for Volume 17. It is currently nominated for Volume 20, whose theme centers on reminiscence and renewal.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for this award,” said Bianca Jules, Editor-in Chief for AXIS. “Despite the stigma behind community colleges, we have so much talent and students who are brilliant. It is thanks to the students that we are able to prevail.”
