The Reporter Selects Editor-In-Chief For 2025-26 School Year

Yazid Guelida, a rising sophomore at Wolfson Campus, has been appointed editor-in-chief of The Reporter for the 2025-26 school year.

“It’s an honor to be selected to lead such a prestigious publication,” Guelida said. “The Reporter has given me the opportunity to succeed as a journalist, and I look forward to giving back to the paper in any way I can.”

The 19-year-old, a mass communication/journalism major, will lead a staff of about 45 students. He will assign, edit and write content for the paper’s print, digital and newsletter editions.

Guelida, who is of Colombian and Moroccan descent, hails from a family of distinguished journalists. His mom, Norma Ardila, was a reporter for the Metropolis, the former student newspaper at Wolfson Campus, and El Nuevo Herald. She’s currently an information coordinator for Miami Dade College’s media relations department. His father, Hamza Guelida, was a sports and political journalist in Morocco at Maghreb Arabe Press, where he covered the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.

As a freshman, Guelida started as a forum writer at The Reporter, but quickly developed into one of the paper’s top news writers. His stories have included an obituary on North Campus judo legend Leyshon “Jack” Williams and 2025 graduation coverage.

During his tenure, which starts on June 2 and runs through the summer of 2026, he intends to continue cultivating a space where aspiring journalists can grow and improve their skills.

Guelida, who lives in Miami Shores with his orange tabby cat, Ronnie, aspires to be an investigative reporter. He is a 2024 graduate of Doctors Charter School.
