Former Florida governor, Jeb Bush, announced his candidacy for U.S. President on June 15 at the Kendall Campus gymnasium.
The gym was crowded with people waving signs that read, “Jeb! 2016.” People cheered and shouted as they anticipated the Republican candidate’s speech.
Bush’s announcement speech started with a one-hour rally that incorporated a Spanish-language musical performance by the Chirino Sisters, a prayer and the singing of the National Anthem. The speech began with Bush praising Miami Dade College.
“I always feel welcome at Miami Dade College,” Bush said. “This is a place that welcomes everyone with their hearts set on the future – a place where hope leads to achievement, and striving leads to success. For all of us, it is just the place to be in the campaign that begins today.”
The crowd of about 3,000 people continuously cheered as Bush spoke.
“So, here’s what it comes down to. Our country is on a very bad course. And the question is: What are we going to do about it? The question for me is: What am I going to do about it? And I have decided. I’m a candidate for president of the United States,” Bush said in his speech.
Bush also talked about his record as governor, improving economic growth, and immigration reform. He promised an economic growth of four percent per year if elected president, with 19 million new jobs.
