Hialeah Campus Presents Isle Of Leiocephalous

Miami Dade College’s Hialeah Campus Gallery, 1780 W. 49 St., welcomes Isle of Leiocephalous, a collaborative exhibition by artists Franky Cruz, Jonathan deCamps, and Ernesto Maranje.

Cruz, deCamps, and Maranje have come together to construct a universe using the roots of the surrounding college community area in Hialeah. Finding a relationship with the Animal Kingdom, each artist studied and researched different natural areas, like the Everglades.

“We found a resemblance with the curly tail lizard (Leiocephalus), which is a reptile that is widely distributed throughout much of the Caribbean,” said deCamps. “And each island has its own species of curly tail lizard family.”

The show will portray the different islands Cruz, deCamps, and Maranje have created. The islands represent a certain subject and is left for spectators to interpret on their own account.

The gallery will be open through May 30, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, contact MDC Galleries of Art + Design, (305) 237-7700.
