Animate! Miami is Florida’s largest convention for anime and animation. The event took place Oct. 23-25 where fans and professional cosplayers gathered at their second home.
Among the professional cosplayers was, Sandy Tang. She is a self-taught makeup enthusiast who became interested in makeup years ago after watching makeup demonstrator and YouTube personality, Michelle Phan.
Thereafter, Tang taught herself how to do makeup and has worked with Beauty by Arlette, expanding her knowledge and exposure by working with clientele. She grew up playing video games and watching anime. Recently she has merged her skills and interests to makeup and costuming in cosplay.
If you’re in search of a last minute costume for Halloween, Tang has a tutorial for flawless anime-inspired eyes that can be done in seven easy steps. She starts the tutorial with a base of foundation and powder then suggests to prep the eyes with eye shadow primer.
What she finds most important is the placement of the eyeliner. It should be extended further than where your eye ends. Next step is to draw the wing line to extend the eyes.
The next important thing is to draw a new lower lash line. You want the line to start about 1-2mm below your natural lash line. This will be the enlarging effect for the eyes.
Tang’s favorite part is the lashes. Bottom lashes are not something a lot of people do, but she feels they add to the anime look.
As a nice finishing touch, she suggests using white eyeliner on the lower lash line in order to emphasize the enlargement of the eyes.
To complete the whole look you can put on a cute wig and then you have an animate look.
