Miami Book Fair is accepting applications for the 2024 Emerging Writer Fellowships project through April 30.
The year-long residency will pair three aspiring authors with professional writers as they complete a book-length project. Participants will also obtain experience teaching creative writing workshops and earn a $55,000 stipend.
“The more books—the more writers, the more perspectives, the more stories, the more cultural output—the better,” said MBF Executive Director Lissette Mendez. “It makes the world a better place.”
The EWG was launched in 2021 through the sponsorship of the Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation.
It has helped seven fellows enhance their craft and launch their careers. One example is Ella Jacobson, a cultural critic and writer from Alaska who received a $25,00 creative writing fellowship from National Endowment for the Arts to work on her first book that focuses on how people process unintentional violence.
Applicants must submit a proposal to complete a manuscript-in-progress, a sample of their MIP, a statement of need, a curriculum vitae and two recommendation letters.
Participants must be at least 21 years old, reside in the United States, be a U.S. citizen or resident or have temporary protected or legal permanent status.
Additionally, they must not be a degree-seeking student, have a full-time job or have published a book-length work by the time the fellowship starts.
Winners will be announced during mid-September;fellowships will start in January of 2025.
