Should billionaires influence our education? I think not.
Recently, two billionaires, The Koch brothers, owners of Koch Industries, Inc.—the second largest privately owned company in the United States—have signed agreements with various universities around the country.
Fortunately, Miami Dade College has been spared. But other schools aren’t as lucky.
The Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation has pledged $1.5 million to Florida State University, but not as a regular endowment. Instead of donors having little input, they (donors) will decide who is hired based on prospective candidates’ adherence to the donor’s self-serving, wealth-worshiping ideology.
The Charles G. Koch Foundation is now taking over universities and tampering with their faculty and staff. To me it sounds like a corrupt agreement, where the universities are selling out for funding. I understand that times are tough, but this is frightening.
Sooner or later we all might be moving into a college dictatorship. When transferring, beware. Instead of going to FSU, it might be Koch University.
