Tanya Scotece was selected as the program coordinator of Funeral Services Education at North Campus. She began her duties in January.
Scotece plans to expand networking opportunities and hands-on learning experiences for students seeking to enter the death care industry.
“My goal is to foster relationships outside of the school so students can have a richer educational experience,” Scotece said.
Ever since attending a wake when she was 12, Scotece has been fascinated by funeral services and how the industry honors the lives of those that are no longer with us.
From 2006 to 2018, Scotece served as director of the Farley Funeral Homes & Crematory/Venice Memorial Gardens. Four years ago, she started at Miami Dade College as a professor of funeral service education.
The 54-year-old earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Florida in 2007. Two years later, she obtained a master’s degree in criminal forensics, with an emphasis in death investigation, from Florida Gulf Coast University. In 2015, Scotece earned a doctorate degree in adult education from USF.
