Grant For Students Who Lost A Parent Who Served In Iraq Or Afghanistan

Students who have lost a parent during military service in Iraq or Afghanistan are eligible for a grant that can not exceed $5,775. Funding for the grant is through the U.S. Department of Education.

People that may receive these grants are students that weren’t eligible for the Federal Pell Grant based on expected family contribution but meet the remaining requirements of the Federal Pell Grant. The service grant is eligible to students whose parents or guardians were U.S. Armed Forces service men and women who passed away after Sept. 11, 2001 resulting from serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. The student must have been under the age of 24 and enrolled in college at least part time when their parent or guardian died.
