Miami Dade College will host two author presentations at the Homestead and Kendall Campus on Feb. 24 and 26, in collaboration with the Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial Holocaust Education Week.

Author Leah Roth will speak about her personal account depicted in her book, My Eyes Looking Back At Me, which tells of her experience as a Jewish Holocaust survivor, at the Homestead Campus at 11:15 a.m., 500 College Terrace, Building F, Room 222. She will recall her struggle to survive the Holocaust while a prisoner at Auschwitz and the role of her religious values in the face of evil.

Carla McClafferty, author of  the book In Defiance of Hitler: The Secret Mission of Varion Fry will tell the story of the life of Fry, an American journalist in Vichy, France from 1940-41. Fry ran an underground network that rescued up to 4,000 Jews during the Holocaust. Among those saved by Fry were anti-Nazi artists, intellectuals, writers and political protesters. Fry is only one of three Americans to be given the Righteous Among the Nations honor from Israel’s Holocaust museum, Yad Vashem. The discussion will be held at 9:50 a.m. on Feb. 26 at the Kendall Campus, 11011 S.W. 104 St.

Admission to the lectures are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Homestead Humanities & Social Sciences Chairperson Randy Kaufman at 305-237-5267.
