Homestead Campus To Host Famed Miami Poet Richard Blanco During Virtual Event

Humanities Edge and the Student Life Department at Homestead Campus are hosting An Afternoon with Richard Blanco: An Inaugural Poet’s Journey on Oct. 26 from 1 p.m. to 2:15 pm.

The event is free and open to the public via Zoom—the password for the link is 205584.

Blanco, who was raised in Miami, is a public speaker, author of 13 books and a civil engineer. In 2012, he was selected by President Barack Obama to be his inaugural poet. He was the youngest, first Latino, immigrant and openly gay person to serve in that role.

Participants will hear some of his Miami-themed poems, anecdotes and up to 50 people will receive his book For All of Us, One Today: An Inaugural Poet’s Journey.

For more information, contact Homestead Campus Student Life Director Nicole Bryant at nbryant@mdc.edu or (305) 237-5223.
