The Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy at Miami Dade College is hiring students to work part-time during the fall semester. Although the deadline is ongoing throughout the year, the department hopes to fill all positions by the end of the summer semester.
Students in the Federal Work-Study program—who must be registered for six credits during the fall and have a GPA of at least 2.5—can apply for the following positions:
- iCED Civic Ambassadors: Duties include assisting in all service-learning, civic engagement programs and community outreach activities led by iCED. Students work 15-25 hours a week for $8.64/hour. There are 20 openings.
- America Reads Tutors: Duties include working off-campus with schools and nonprofits to tutor children from kindergarten to third grade in reading. Students work 15-25 hours a week for $10.64/hour. There are 30 openings.
There are also three voter engagement paid internships with available positions:
- Andrew Goodman Foundation Vote Everywhere Ambassadors: Students receive a $500 stipend per semester to engage in voter education activities and tackle social justice issues. Students work between 5-10 hours per week. There are two positions available at the North, Kendall and Wolfson campuses each.
- Campus Vote Project Democracy Fellows: Students receive a $500 stipend per semester to promote civic engagement and help increase voter registration, education and turnout. Students work between 10-15 hours per week. There are two openings.
- Campus Election Engagement Project Engagement Fellows: Students receive a one-time $1,000 stipend to help with voting registration, distribute nonpartisan candidate guides and organize civic engagement events over the course of 28 weeks. Students work about 10 hours per week. There are 13 openings.
