Miami Dade College has expanded Miami Codes, a computer programming initiative launched last spring at West Campus to help minority students develop app development skills, to Kendall and North campuses.
Courses began this fall. They are being offered through Apple’s community education initiative, featuring two rigorous, eight-week iOS development courses using Swift—a coding language developed by the company in 2014—for degree and non-degree seeking scholars.
They are free for Miami-Dade County residents.
Summer camps will also be held for high school students to learn iOS development through Apple’s Swift Playgrounds—an educational too; for iPad and Mac used to learn the program.
Students who complete the training will have the opportunity to present their apps at an Apple store, apply for paid internships and attend employability and entrepreneurship workshops offered by MDC WORKS and the Idea Center.
