MDC’s Center For Literature And Theater Will Host The Big Read

Created by the National Endowment for the Arts, The Big Read encourages reading among communities.

This year’s focus is on Indian culture and The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri.

The celebration begins with a traditional Bhangra performance by Indian dancer Ranjana Warier and her company on March 16 at Miami Beach.

Chef Ayesha will hold an Indian Cuisine class on April 1 at the Miami Culinary Institute, 415 N.E. 2nd Ave.

Finally, Suketo Mehta will discuss his novel Maximum Cites: Bombay/New York on April 9 at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Avenue.

“Free copies of The Namesake will be distributed at the events,” said Nicole Swift, program assistant.

Events are open to the public and free of charge, except for the cooking class.
