The food pantry at North Campus received more than 2,000 canned goods following a campus-wide donation competition.
Elizabeth Potenza, the ACCESS services director at North Campus, initiated the competition between the different divisions of student services to restock the food pantry, which was facing a shortage.
The three-week competition ended on Aug. 1. It garnered enough collections to feed 166 students. To continue the re-stocking efforts, the North food pantry is also investing $5,000 to buy more goods before the Fall semester begins.
“I’m very thankful,” said Janet Mapp, the single stop director and overseer of the food pantry at North Campus. “This is definitely going to help us with the upcoming semester.”
Located in Room 3115, the North Campus food pantry originally opened in 2013 to assist students with food insecurity. Students can visit the pantry on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
