Komarvoski Antrone Wells was appointed director of the Institute for Civic Engagement & Democracy on June 10.
Wells will oversee programs that offer service opportunities, cultivate leadership skills and promote democratic engagement.
“My role? Awakening civic responsibility and shaping a generation of informed, actively engaged citizen-leaders,” Wells said.
Prior to Miami Dade College, Wells taught English, speech and debate and broadcast journalism at Journey Middle School in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Before that, he served as customer operations supervisor at FanDuel, an online betting company, for two years, and as an English teacher in the Coffee County School System in Savannah, Georgia for nearly three years.
From May of 2012 through July of 2015, Wells worked in accounting operations at the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Courts’ Central Depository. Prior to that, he served as a business specialist at Apple for five years.
The 48-year-old earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Florida International University in 2008 and a master’s degree in finance and accounting from Barry University in 2012. This year, he obtained a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Virginia.
