The School of Justice, Public Safety and Law Studies will be offering an advanced safety driving program on Nov. 20, Jan. 19 and March 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It will feature three hours of classroom instruction where participants will learn about subjects such as the psychological causes of driver stress and the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.
The program will also include five hours of in-field instruction on the driving course adjacent to building 9, where students will learn how to perform vehicle safety checks, evasive maneuvers, skid control techniques and more.
“We know that if [participants] learn the proper techniques, they’re going to be able to avoid crashes and be safe on the road,” said Veronica Gonzalez, the associate director of the School of Justice’s assessment center.
Eligible applicants must be 16 years of age or older and hold a Class C driver’s license.
