Origenes “Kiko” Benoit Named Coach Of The Year

Lady Sharks head volleyball coach, Origenes Benoit, was named the Northeast/Southeast National Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Dec. 17.

“It’s always nice to be recognized when you work hard for something,” Coach Benoit said.

Miami Dade College fell just short of capturing a National Championship this year, losing in the championship game to defending national champions, Blinn College of Texas,  at the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament in Casper, Wyoming.

The Lady Sharks finished the season 30-4 including three wins at the National Junior College Athletic Association championship.

Benoit became an assistant coach at MDC in 1995; he ascended to the head coaching position in 2005.
