Read-A-Thon At Kendall Campus

The Kendall Campus will be hosting a Read- a-Thon for students to come in and listen to excerpts by Latino authors that are banned by the Tucson Unified School District in Arizona.

Students in the Tucson school system are banned from reading a book like Sandra Cisnero’s House on Mango Street, because it is perceived as a work that conspires against the American Government.

“It’s insanity,” said professor Elena Perez-Mirabal on the issue.

The read-a-thon will take place on October 4th in the Kendall Campus library located at 11011 SW 104 Street, building 2 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event will be streamed live on the Web from Room 2254.

“I hope that students will gain a perspective on the value of connection, engagement, and solidarity across state borders” added Perez-Mirabal.
