Reporter Alumna Lands Internship With Tech Publication GrepBeat

Temiloluwa Alagbe, who served as a staff writer for The Reporter during the 2023-2024 school year, landed a paid internship with GrepBeat, a publication based in North Carolina that covers tech startups in the state.

The remote internship began in June and will continue through the fall semester. Duties include scheduling interviews and writing articles.

“It’s always been on my mind to explore as many areas of journalism as possible,” Algabe said.

At GrepBeat, Alagbe has written stories about two moms that created a digital planner specialized for the parents of young children and a duo from Duke University who created an AI platform to help people consume news.

From November of 2024 to August of 2025, the 21-year-old was a lifestyle columnist for The Daily Tar Heel, the student newspaper at the University of North Carolina.

Before UNC, she was an A/E and opinions writer for The Reporter from April of 2023 through July of 2024. She covered topics such as the Ozempic craze and its effects on beauty standards and the impact of Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE tour on the fashion industry.

Alagbe earned an associate degree in English literature and education from The Honors College at North Campus in April of 2024. She is expected to graduate from UNC in 2027 with a bachelor’s degree in media journalism and English and comparative literature.
