Keyra Mendoza, who serves as a news writer for The Reporter, landed a paid internship at Impact.Edition, a Miami-based nonprofit publication dedicated to sustainable development and collective impact.
Mendoza started on March 30 as a social impact writer. Her duties include researching social and environmental impact topics, drafting articles and short-form stories and collaborating with the editorial team on revisions.
“Impact.Edition takes care to spotlight underrepresented and overlooked individuals in Miami, which really sparked my interest in learning more about the city I’ve been in practically my whole life,” she said. “I’m excited to see what I’ll learn and who I’ll meet.”
Mendoza’s interest in journalism began at Miami Beach Senior High School after she interviewed a Holocaust survivor for her world literature studies class.
The 18-year-old joined The Reporter in August of 2025 as a briefing writer and was promoted to cover news this semester.
She has covered the construction of the new Honors College lounge at North Campus and previewed the 43rd annual Miami Film Festival.
Mendoza, who is majoring in mass communications/journalism at Wolfson Campus, aspires to be an entertainment journalist.
