Sol Gonzalez was named the new dean of students at InterAmerican Campus. She has worked at Miami Dade College for more than 25 years.

Throughout her tenure, Gonzalez has also served as the director of ACCESS Services for Students with Disability and as director of Student Retention.

Her first official day as dean of students was March 16. She hopes to bring a student-oriented approach and experience to the student body.

“I attended Miami Dade College as an immigrant and the first in my family to go to college,” Gonzalez said. “There were days that were more difficult than others; as most things in life, pursuing a higher education degree requires commitment and persistence.”

Gonzalez obtained her master’s degree in mental health counseling from Barry University. She has concrete ideas on how to help the campus grow and promote higher education within the community.

“As having contributed to a better campus environment and support for student learning through co-curricular activities, promoting that students have places to hang out and to learn, develop a sense of community and leadership skills,” Gonzalez said.
