The words we speak come from the hidden desires in our hearts. Whatever is deep and buried in our hearts will eventually flow out of our mouths and into the atmosphere.
We’ve all probably heard the saying “Hurt people hurt people,” but have we ever stopped to think that maybe it is our words that hurt, and not necessarily people? Maybe you told someone a secret and they told all your friends, and now it’s hard for you to trust people.
But repeating the phrase, “I have trust issues” is not going to create the positive atmosphere you want. Instead of reminding yourself of that negative event, decide to cleanse your heart by letting it go.
Our hearts are like roots of a tree. If the root of a tree is good, you can expect there will be good fruit. The same with our words and the atmosphere. If our words are good, we can expect a good atmosphere.
The dictionary defines atmosphere as “the pervading tone or mood of a place, situation, or work of art.” Creating an atmosphere is the gradual process of adding layers to our surroundings, but in this case, with our words.
One day on the bus ride home, I sat next to a woman who used words like “tired,” “hungry” and “irritated.” As the woman spoke, she added layers of detail explaining why she was tired and what made her irritated. I couldn’t help but feel the cloud of her negativity envelope the place were sitting in.
The kind of words we use can be the difference between a fulfilling atmosphere or stressful one. One day, overwhelmed by work and responsibilities, I started to speak discouraging words to myself. “I am never going to get this done.”
Catching myself heading toward a downward spiral, I started speaking encouraging words, which empowered me to take on the assignments. “This is a lot of work, but it’s fun work,” I told myself. This helped me build the atmosphere I needed to get my work done. Had it not been for this shift in attitude and words, I wouldn’t have completed my work.
Words are the fuel that propel us into the direction of our dreams. You can have dreams and visions about becoming great, but if your words are not aligned with who you want to be, there will be no motivating power to get you there.
I remember wanting to become a writer, but it wasn’t until I started calling myself a writer that I become one. The same is possible for everyone who is willing to use words to create an atmosphere of love.
