It features a small lounge area and a beautiful view of downtown Miami. <br \/>SEBASTI\u00c1N BALLESTAS THE REPORTER<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdcthereporter.com\/new-addition-to-the-wolfson-campus\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Miami Culinary Institute<\/span><\/strong><\/a>\u2019s dining room, famous for its captivating view of the Freedom Tower and the American Airlines Arena, officially opened its doors during lunch\u2014for the first time ever\u2014 on Jan. 23. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bistro @ Tuyo offers a variety of options, prepared by advanced MCI students, fulfilling the 200-hour practical requirement to graduate with an associate\u2019s degree in culinary management. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe practicum was always done outside of MCI and I brought this idea because when I did my practicum I had a horrible experience,\u201d said Victor Santos, the executive chef of the restaurant and instructor of the College\u2019s culinary practicum course. \u201cFor me it made sense to offer this here since we have the facilities. We have a restaurant. We have a dining room. There is a kitchen. It was only a matter of setting this up.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tuyo Restaurant has been serving fine dining meals after 6 p.m. for more than six years. Dinners feature an upscale American contemporary cuisine menu, where the entr\u00e9es range from $29 to $42. The lunch option, Santos said, is a more casual experience. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With only about 40 out of the 65 tables at the restaurant open, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, the public can enjoy a variety of lunch alternatives. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c[We have] something that hopefully appeals to everybody, whether you want a quick salad, whether you want an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">entr\u00e9e<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d Santos said. \u201cBasically something that from my experience, I know that I\u2019ll be able to sell and basically showcase very high quality products at a very reasonable price.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main plates, which cost from $18 to $22, are grilled skirt steak, miso glazed salmon, pasta carbonara and fish of the day served with roasted tomatillo salsa or romesco. Alcoholic beverages will also be available for the guests during lunch. <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10078\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10078\" style=\"width: 524px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-10078\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mdcthereporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Tuyo-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Inside Tuyo.\" width=\"524\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Tuyo-2-392x272.jpg 392w, https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Tuyo-2-130x90.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 524px) 100vw, 524px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10078\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Top Lunch: The eighth floor of the Miami Culinary Institute has a captivating view of downtown Miami, which guests can now enjoy during lunchtime while eating at Bistro @ Tuyo. <br \/>SEBASTI\u00c1N BALLESTAS THE REPORTER<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rest of the menu includes Caesar and Cobb salads ranging from $9 to $14, a soup of the day for $8, sandwiches\u2014including the Bistro Tuyo Burger\u2014from $12 to $14, and desserts like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and chocolate mousse for $8\u2014all done by MCI students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe wanted to give the students an opportunity to learn how to get real work experience before graduating the program so it\u2019s kind of like their practicum before they leave us,\u201d said Sara Howard, the restaurant\u2019s manager. \u201cThey get great experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On weekdays, ten aspiring chefs begin prepping for lunch at 9 a.m. on the seventh floor of the MCI building, where Tuyo\u2019s kitchen is housed. Every week, students rotate among the different stations in the kitchen, including the grill, the s<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aut\u00e9 post, and the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">garde manger<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> station for cold dishes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdc.edu\/wolfson\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Wolfson Campus<\/span><\/strong><\/a> President Richard Soria described the lunch time at the restaurant as \u201cinviting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOn a scale of one to 10, I would totally give it a 10,\u201d said Soria, who has eaten several times at Bistro @ Tuyo since its opening. \u201cThe service was amazing. The attention of the server to the table was perfect, just the right amount of attention. The food&#8230;was delivered at the right time, at the right temperature&#8230;and everything was fresh. \u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, students on a budget viewed the high-end restaurant warily. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think the service and the location gave the place some potential, but they need more accessible and affordable options for students,\u201d said Jessica Mouyal, an English major at the Wolfson Campus, who paid $32 for her meal on opening day. \u201cUnless they get cheaper options, I won\u2019t go back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other more affordable food options in the area include, McDonald\u2019s, Zona Fresca or Subway, all minutes from the campus. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But school officials believe the proximity to campus will make it an attractive option to students and the downtown community. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor students it\u2019s right there, right on campus which is perfect,\u201d Soria said. \u201cWe also know that we have many large industries that work around the campus, like the government center so it\u2019s an easy walk to the campus&#8230;and we remind ourselves it\u2019s because of the time\u2026people can have a lunch hour, in and out and have a great meal with a beautiful view of the city.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To make reservations at Bistro @ Tuyo, <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">call (305) 237-3200 or email <\/span><\/i><a href=\"mailto:reservations@tuyomiami.com\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">reservations@tuyomiami.com<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They also accept walk-ins.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Miami Culinary Institute\u2019s dining room, famous for its captivating view of the Freedom Tower and the American Airlines Arena, officially opened its doors during lunch\u2014for the first time ever\u2014 on Jan. 23.
