Despite having comic book characters, it felt like a more grounded, emotional film. It felt wholly original, despite coming from the panels of a classic Wolverine storyline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the summer months passed, more comic adaptations were released. Despite the acclaim that films like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0451279\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><i>Wonder Woman <\/i><\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guardians of the Galaxy<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> received, it still seemed that this past summer will be remembered for its overblown superhero movies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, no one told Edgar Wright, who delivered his signature coolness to one of the most blistering summers in recent history. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hot Fuzz is <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wright\u2019s best film to date, (fans of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scott Pilgrim <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can email me directly with \u00a0their hate) his latest effort <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baby Driver<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is nothing short of astonishing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately, it pains me to have to review it, because that would require me talking about the movie. Sure, I\u2019ve done it in less than 140 characters on Twitter, several times. This is a different case, if it were up to me, I would leave the page blank with the words \u201cSEE THIS MOVIE\u201d in bold written for all to read. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a world of responsibilities and deadlines, that would be merely impossible. The most basic of plot details I can give are as follows: a young getaway driver is coerced into major heists that eventually go awry. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The story evokes the best of 70\u2019s action films. Wright\u2019s love of films is in full effect here, echoing movies like 1978\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Driver <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to 2015\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mad Max: Fury Road. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The twist comes with its use of music. The sounds of engines revving is accompanied by opening bassline to \u201cNeat Neat Neat\u201d by the Damned or shotgun fire complements the iconic beat to \u201cTequila\u201d (of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pee Wee\u2019s Big Adventure <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fame). All of this essentially marries the precise and lightning fast editing style that Wright has been known for. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This marriage of sound and editing is joined by razor sharp writing. All of the lines delivered by cast members like Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamn and Jamie Foxx feels funny and natural. Jokes land perfectly, and although there aren\u2019t any overt movie references like past films in the Brit\u2019s catalogue, it still feels fresh and funny. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baby Driver<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> feels like a breath of fresh air. One that hits you at more than 200 miles per hour, with the windows down, and with some amazing punk music blaring. Edgar Wright has, unsurprisingly, delivered another genre film with spectacular style and grace. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If guys in capes have you depressed, look no further than the horse powered joyride that is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baby Driver. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just watch it, please.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple months back, I praised James Mangold\u2019s Logan as a refreshing comic book movie, moving away from capes and CGI macguffins.
