Miami Dade College will remain closed until at least Monday, Sept. 18 while cleanup efforts continue in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.<\/p>\n

Like much of South Florida, the College sustained tree damage at several of its campuses either on its actual grounds or on the sidewalks that sit next to their campuses.<\/p>\n

It is unknown at this time if any of the buildings sustained structural damage or water damage.<\/p>\n

College officials are urging students and employees not involved in the cleanup and recovery process to stay away from campus. The College has eight campuses and several outreach centers throughout Miami-Dade County. It serves more than 170,000 students.<\/p>\n

Miami Dade College cancelled all classes and activities on Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. through Sunday Sept. 10 in preparation of Hurricane Irma.<\/p>\n

Irma passed through parts of Florida as a category 3 hurricane leaving hundreds of houses and businesses damaged and thousands of residents without power.<\/p>\n

Other Florida schools such as the University of Miami<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, Barry University<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and Florida Atlantic University<\/span><\/strong><\/a> are also closed through at least Sept. 18 as the cleanup process continues.<\/p>\n
