The musical project started in 2014 as an attempt to recreate the surf rock sounds of the 1960s. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They describe their sound as alternative rock \u201cwith coastal indie-vibes.\u201d Cannibal Kids said they were heavily influenced by bands likes Oberhofer and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelocalnatives.com\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Local Natives<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a humble beginning<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">playing at house parties<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the band went on to perform at Vans Warped Tour in the summer of 2015 and garnered attention from SoundCloud releases such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where Are The People <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graphing<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cannibal Kids released their first LP, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bloom, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on Oct 29<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lead single <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Troubled Mind <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is an upbeat and sunny punk-inspired song. The surf rock influences are clear with lush guitar strumming and a thumping bassline. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graphing<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has a funky 70s style guitar and ringing bells. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To You, For You. From Me.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a song about a failed relationship, is the most melancholy moment of the album. The darker, thoughtful lyrics contrast against the relatively upbeat mood of the song. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My Boy\/My Girl <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">starts out with stripped-down guitar arpeggios, with hard-hitting drums in the chorus. The band\u2019s Miami roots are evident in the final track of the album,<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Outro (I Will Always Love You)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The song, the album\u2019s only genre switch, begins with the sound of crashing waves fading into a jazzy bossa nova-inspired melody. Overall, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bloom<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contains lyrical themes of young love, the ocean and heartbreak. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The songs are catchy, but often monotonous in style. The instrumentation, song structure and use of varying dynamics is consistent throughout each song. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fans of bands like Two Door Cinema Club and Best Coast will enjoy this release.
