Ricardo Castro, a senior at the School for Advanced Studies at Kendall Campus<\/span><\/a>, was honored by Mayor Carlos Gim\u00e9nez on Nov. 21 with the Pursuer of Excellence award from the mayor\u2019s Shining Scholars Awards<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Castro, 17, has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his high school career as president of the National Honor Society and treasurer for the Pre-Med Club and Student Government Association.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also participated in a community service project with The Salt and Light Project, a non-profit organization that collects hygiene and school supplies and works with missionary organizations to send them to countries such as Cuba, Ecuador, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Myanmar. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI put a lot of work and dedication towards my community service work,\u201d Castro said. \u201cBeing recognized in such a platform by Mayor Gimenez made me feel really proud and it is also very inspiring for me to keep working even more in my projects.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
