Dax Aldecocea, a senior at the School for Advanced Studies<\/span><\/a> at Wolfson Campus, was awarded the Pursuer of Excellence Award by Mayor Carlos Gim\u00e9nez on Feb. 6. <\/span><\/p>\n

Aldecocea, 17, has a 5.2 GPA while serving as Wolfson Campus<\/span><\/a> SAS student government president and Miami-Dade County Youth Commissioner.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also founded the School for Advanced Studies\u2019 scholarship fund, served the homeless in Downtown Miami through Hope for the Homeless and is vice president of the Glory House of Miami\u2019s Youth Board. In addition, Aldecocea placed second at the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association State Championships. <\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cFor a large part of my life, I have placed a significant emphasis on coordinating projects and advocating for changes that would improve the lives of those around me,\u201d Aldecocea said. \u201cTherefore, having these many service endeavors recognized by Mayor Gimenez was an honor that I will continue to cherish.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
