Sophisticated machines are becoming \u201csmarter\u201d and humans rely more on them than never. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the industrial world, AI (artificial intelligence) is replacing more and more workers. <\/span><\/p>\n

The last time I went to a CVS, I didn\u2019t need the assistance of a cashier. <\/span><\/p>\n

It is feared that one day the artificial intelligence will surpass humans and that moment in time is called technological singularity. <\/span><\/p>\n

Guess what, it has already begun.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSiri, remind me to take out the trash when I get home.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSiri, remind me to call Fred when I leave work. \u201c <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSiri, call my doctor.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSiri, remind me to use the restroom at 4 p.m.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

These are all the commands we give to a super advanced computer. <\/span><\/p>\n

It is amazing and frightening all at once. <\/span><\/p>\n

When we don\u2019t ask Siri, we ask Google to tell us what we were supposed to know or remember.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who still remembers someone else\u2019s phone number or checks their daily agenda? <\/span><\/p>\n

If it were not for Facebook, most of us would not remember the birthday of our loved ones. <\/span><\/p>\n

P.S. thank you Facebook.<\/span><\/p>\n

When we need to know something about someone, instead of looking for ways to directly contact them, we turn to social media or just Google their names.<\/span><\/p>\n

Something is certain, our reliance on artificial intelligence, like smartphones<\/span><\/a> for example, has an impact on our brain. <\/span><\/p>\n

We think and remember less. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We are not losing our own intelligence, but it seems as though we have handed over our capacity to remember over to the machines. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our schedule, agenda, appointment, formal and informal knowledge etc. have been trusted in the hands of an external brain known as a smartphone. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a fact that we rely more and more on artificial intelligence to know or remember things. <\/span><\/p>\n

In that sense, they become more \u201cknowing\u201d or \u201cintelligent\u201d while most of us retain less knowledge about ourselves. <\/span><\/p>\n

The singularity has already started when men have given up so much of their capacities and let the machines do the job.<\/span><\/p>\n

Machines are good at storing information, calculating and pushing complex logarithms, but they do not have a mind and will never be able to think. <\/span><\/p>\n

However, some could say, \u201cwhy can\u2019t a \u00a0machine have a mind of its own one day.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

The answer to the mind question depends on the side you stand on philosophically. <\/span><\/p>\n

It depends if you are a Cartesian dualist or a machine-state functionalist. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even the internationally renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking is concerned about such a possibility. \u201cThe development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race,\u201d Hawking told the BBC News. <\/span><\/p>\n

Elon Musk (Tesla and SpaceX) called it the human race\u2019s biggest existential threat. <\/span><\/p>\n
