Reporter <\/span><\/i>alumni, <\/span>Maria Elena Vizca\u00edno<\/b> and <\/span>Riane Roldan<\/b>,<\/span> have been selected to participate in the National Association of Hispanic Journalists<\/span><\/a> Student Project from July 18 to July 21. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so excited that I\u2019m going to be able to go to NAHJ and be part of the student project and work with mentors from the organization,\u201d Vizca\u00edno said. <\/span><\/p>\n

The NAHJ Student Project offers students week-long training to work with journalists and cover the NAHJ International Training Conference and Career Fair, which will be held in Miami this year. Students will also produce stories for the Latino Reporter Digital.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not just covering the conference. [Students] go and find stories focusing on the industry in Miami,\u201d Roldan said. \u201cIt\u2019s cool to go back home and report on a place I grew up in. It\u2019s just a really good experience overall.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Vizca\u00edno, 21, is studying journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and covers crime for <\/span>The Daily Tar Heel<\/span><\/i>, the student newspaper at UNC. At <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i>, she served as editor-in-chief during the 2016-17 year. <\/span><\/p>\n

Roldan, 21, is the express editor at <\/span>The Berkeley Beacon<\/span><\/i>, the student newspaper at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, where she is studying journalism. She served as A & E editor at <\/span>The Reporter <\/span><\/i>during the 2016-17 year. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
