In a season that began with hope and a retooled roster, the Lady Sharks\u2019 softball team has suffered a lot of defeat. They are currently 15-28. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Lady Sharks started the season on a three game win streak. However, they soon ran into a large wall by losing 14 of their next 16 games.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think that we struggle at staying focused in all the games. Sometimes we tend to score two or three times when we [were projected] to destroy the team\u201d said Lady Sharks shortstop Melissa Mayeux<\/span><\/a>. \u201cI think we got everything to be good in our defense and hitting. We just need to be more consistent and have the desire to beat the other team every single time that we go on the field.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Lady Sharks<\/span><\/a> can\u2019t seem to find the win column at home or on the road. They are 7-13 at home and 8-15 in away and neutral site games. Despite their bleak situation, the team feels that their chemistry took a step in the right direction this year. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, the main difference between this season and last season is that we are much more connected as a team. The bond we share this year wasn\u2019t there last year and it\u2019s affecting our gameplay and chemistry on the field\u201d said sophomore pitcher Emma Maitland. \u201cGranted our record isn\u2019t where we\u2019d like it to be, but when we\u2019re all on the same page at the same time you can feel the energy coming from the dugout.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Fielding an all freshman team, expect for one sophomore, the Lady Sharks understand that in order to build toward success there must be a lot of trial and error. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe lacked game time experience this season which shows in our record. Even though our record doesn’t show it, we’ve continued to get better throughout the season\u201d said Lady Sharks head coach Gina De Ag<\/span>\u00fc<\/span>ero. \u201cWe need to improve in our confidence as players and over all individuals. With this improvement, I believe our performance on the field will get better. We need to become more consistent hitters at the plate.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Losing almost half of their games by less than three runs, the Lady Sharks haven\u2019t been able to win the close games. At times they were one or two timely hits away from wins in the later parts of games.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are a young team and we have worked hard on the field at both the mental and physical part of the game,\u201d De Ag<\/span>\u00fc<\/span>ero said. \u201cWe’ve learned a lot this year and we will be able to implement those lessons at the beginning of next season.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Having won four out of their last five games, the Lady Sharks are in prime position to finish the season on a high note.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would love to win the remainder of our games and end our season on a positive note,\u201d De Ag<\/span>\u00fc<\/span>ero said. \u201cI want the team to continue to push themselves and work hard during the off season so we can begin next season right where we left off.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
