A relationship is suppose to involve two people caring, supporting, and loving each other. <\/span><\/p>\n

Modern day relationships are heavily based on social media<\/span><\/a> likes, posts, follows and unfollows.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sadly this is how many people in relationships express their feelings now.<\/span><\/p>\n

It appears that couples need social media sites to validate their relationship, to themselves and to the people on their friends list. <\/span><\/p>\n

I myself love technology and its many uses, but the truth is technology is reducing the amount of actual face to face conversation. <\/span><\/p>\n

Remember when Mondays and Wednesdays were just simple weekdays? <\/span><\/p>\n

Now Mondays and Wednesdays are used as \u201cMan Crush Mondays\u201d and \u201cWoman Crush Wednesdays,\u201d which is posting a picture of someone who you find attractive on your news feed. <\/span><\/p>\n

People are in constant competition with each other, comparing themselves with other couples that \u201clook\u201d like they\u2019re having a better relationship based on the pictures they post.<\/span><\/p>\n

As I walk through Kendall Campus<\/span><\/a>, I see couples left and right but instead of talking to each other they are on their cell phones. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the past, when you were on your cell phone it meant you were responding to an important call or text message. <\/span><\/p>\n

Now its checking email, tweeting about nothing, and posting something you probably should not be posting. <\/span><\/p>\n

Are they checking who their significant other is texting? <\/span><\/p>\n

Could they be posting a picture that they know will capture the attention of an ex-significant other? <\/span><\/p>\n

These are questions that I have and decided to ask one of my classmates.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anastastia Fraga, 19,a mass communication major, has just celebrated her two year anniversary with her boyfriend. <\/span><\/p>\n

Fraga stated that social media has both negatively and positively affected her relationships.<\/span><\/p>\n

Social media has aided her in catching her ex-boyfriend who was cheating on her, and clarified that the relationship was over. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere has been more bad experiences, than good,\u201d Fraga said. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think its bad to express feelings on social media once in a blue moon, theres nothing wrong with showing that you love your significant other,\u201d Fraga said. \u201cHowever, I do think it should not be every week through social media posts, because it gets annoying.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s nothing like telling someone how you feel in person and the reaction you get from it, Fraga said. <\/span><\/p>\n

Your relationship should not be posted on social media every week, and I believe it does more harm than good.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of these couples that appear to be happy on social media, tend to have the most issues in reality. <\/span><\/p>\n

Remember to take a break from your phone and look up at the person who you’re in a relationship with.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
