MDC-TV is on a winning streak. <\/span><\/p>\n

For the third year in a row, the network won a Suncoast Regional Emmy on Dec. 2 at the 42nd annual Suncoast Regional Emmys in Orlando. <\/span><\/p>\n

MDC-TV won for <\/span>Sustainable Fashion<\/span><\/i>, the second installment of the ongoing series <\/span>Fashion Forward,<\/span><\/i> in the Informative\/Instructional category, a new award. <\/span><\/p>\n

The winning team includes executive director <\/span>Ariel Rubalcava<\/b>, producer <\/span>Nastassia Alayeto Alvarez<\/b>, sound engineer <\/span>Amed Torrecilla<\/b>, video engineer <\/span>Richard De La Vega<\/b>, production assistant <\/span>Josephine Aiello<\/b> and videographers <\/span>Daniel Rodriguez<\/b> and <\/span>Maikel Garcia<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody is happy,\u201d Rubalcava said. \u201cWe try to do our best work because we love our profession. When the Academy gives you an award, you feel blessed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

MDC-TV, a college broadcasting station located in North Campus, has been viewed by more than 1.3 million homes in Miami-Dade County and broadcasts seven days a week in English, Spanish, Creole and French. <\/span>The station can be viewed on AT&T U-Verse (Channel 99) and on Comcast (Channel 78).<\/span><\/p>\n

It was spawned when the College took the reigns of Miami-Dade County\u2019s community access channel in 2008. It is run through the College\u2019s School of Entertainment & Design Technology. <\/span><\/p>\n

MDC-TV\u2019s previous wins have been under the Special Events Coverage (Other than News or Sports) category for their coverage of the Video Game Concert performed at North Campus. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe team had to learn how to be daring and different,\u201d Rubalcava said. \u201cWe\u2019re always changing how we do things in our productions, and this project was no exception.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sustainable Fashion<\/span><\/i>, hosted by Miami fashion designer Rene Ruiz, explores how Miami Dade College\u2019s Miami Fashion Institute<\/span><\/a> at Wolfson Campus produces eco-friendly garments. The almost 30-minute episode focuses on the Upcycle Project, which mentors students on using sustainable fashion in their clothing and encourages them to use designs that will not harm the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI believe we\u2019ve always set ourselves to a higher standard,\u201d said Alvarez, the producer of the series. \u00a0\u201cWe strive to produce quality content.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Suncoast Regional Emmys are a chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and are regarded as one the highests achievement in television. The organization was founded in 1955. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Emmys were wanted and well-deserved,\u201d Aiello said. \u201cThe Academy recognized what a small station could do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
