Sixty-seven directors will attend as will 40 producers, 27 jurors and 18 actors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The events takes place at six locations throughout Miami with five competition categories and runs from March 6-15.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMDC\u2019s Miami International Film Festival offers our students\u2014and our community\u2014a fantastic opportunity to see the world through the eyes of independent filmmakers learning about issues that affect the globe,\u201d said Mar\u00eda Mu\u00f1oz-Blanco, executive director for MDC\u2019s cultural affairs department, MDCulture. \u201cThis window to the world, and the multiple voices and points of view are part of independent cinema, are integral to the learning experience that MDC brings to our students.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> major film festival produced by a college, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mu\u00f1oz-Blanco said the 32-year-old event is designed to emphasize <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ibero-American cinema and function as<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a major launch pad for international and documentary cinema<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Events include screenings, panel discussions, film competitions, award ceremonies and cultural exchange opportunities for filmmakers attending globally. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s festival will host five opening nights. At the O Cinema Miami Beach, director Daniel Junge will be opening with his film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being Evel. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the Coral Gables Art Cinema, director Jordan Alexander Ressler is opening with his film<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A Girl At My Door.<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Partners in Crime<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be opening at the Regal Beach South Cinemas. At MDC\u2019s Tower Theater, there will be the fifth annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdcthereporter.com\/mdcs-film-students-take-over-cinemaslam\/\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">CinemaSlam<\/span><\/a> competition and<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Wild Tales, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">directed by Dami\u00e1n Szifron.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The five competition categories are the Knight Documentary Achievement Award, the Lexus Opera Prima Ibero-American Competition, the Jordan Alexander Ressler Charitable Fund, the Park Grove Shorts Competition and the Lexus Audience Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Festival executive director, Jaie Laplante is inspired by young film makers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI would recommend <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Hongos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d Laplante said. \u201cIt is inspiring to see young people becoming globally aware of human rights issues, and taking action through art.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Hongos <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is director Oscar Ruiz Navia\u2019s second feature film.
