The Shark\u2019s opponent has not been determined yet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis is one more step for us,\u201d said sophomore pitcher Orlando Ribalta. \u201cThis gives us the momentum we need going into the state tournament.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sharks, who are 28-17 with a 14- 8 record in the Southern Conference, won Wednesday\u2019s game thanks to a five-run sixth inning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Designated hitter <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sujel <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arias-Auzon<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had three RBI in the game and catcher Nico Martinez- <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bautista added two RBI for the Sharks. Second baseman <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mike Alicea scored three runs. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sharks also got a dominant pitching performance from <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jesus <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valoy-Sanchez<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Henry<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ogando-Martinez<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valoy-Sanchez<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pitched the first four innings, allowing one run and striking out four. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ogando-Martinez<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pitched the last five innings, striking out five and allowing zero runs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Winning the Southern Conference title is a testament to the Sharks determination throughout the semester. After suffering a spate of injuries in February, they lost seven of 15 games that month. However, they bounced back by winning 16 of their last 25 games\u2014including seven of their last 10\u2014before clinching their most recent title. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m extremely proud of our guys,\u201d said head coach Danny Price. \u201cThey kept battling, they kept fighting and there were a lot of times when our backs were against the wall but they didn\u2019t quit. Times like these are when you reflect on the season and throughout it all, they fought. I have a lot of respect for what they did. There\u2019s nothing wrong with enjoying this today but we have two more games [in the regular season] so we still have to keep working.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami Dade College \u00a0has two regular season games remaining. They will play Palm Beach State College in both games. The first game will be held at the baseball field at Kendall Campus, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">11011 S.W. 104 St., <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on April 26 at 3 p.m. and their last season game is at Palm Beach State College on April 27 at 1 p.m. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Sharks Baseball Players Serve Two-Game Suspensions \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two Miami Dade College baseball players<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nico Martinez-<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bautista <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Marvin De La Hoz<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were suspended for two games after an altercation in the final inning of a road game versus Broward College on April 13. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Broward College won the game 3-1. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The incident occurred when Broward\u2019s third baseman, Jeissy De La Cruz, collided with Martinez while running to first. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Sharks head baseball coach Danny Price, Martinez pushed De La Cruz after the collision. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe guy running to first from Broward crash into our first baseman, and then he [Martinez] threw his glove and pushed him back. That was basically all that happened because nothing else occurred,\u201d said sophomore second baseman Mike Alicea. \u201cI stepped in the middle and parted them, but there weren\u2019t any punches or anything like that. It was just a shove and that was all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kelly Warren, executive director of the Florida Collegiate Systems Activities Association, said Martinez was ejected for \u201cmaking physical contact with an opponent,\u201d and De La Hoz was ejected for \u201cleaving the dugout.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Six Broward College players were also ejected after they \u201cleft the bench area\u201d during the incident, Warren said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All the ejections were considered violent per NJCAA\/FCSAA rules and policies and warrant two-game suspensions for the players involved, according to Warren.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The MDC players served their suspensions on April 17 and 19 versus Indian River State College. The Sharks lost the first game 5-3 and won the second game 8-7.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Martinez-<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bautista, a catcher, has a team-leading four home runs this year. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De La Hoz, an infielder, is hitting a paltry .042 in limited action. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Staff writer Jose Tovar contributed to this report.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Miami Dade College men\u2019s baseball team defeated Palm Beach State College at home today, 8-1, capturing the Southern Conference title and securing a spot at the state tournament.
