That\u2019s why when the newest <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lion King<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> remake was announced, fans and movie critics alike waited patiently to see if their childhood memories would be re-lived.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately, the dream was not only crushed but also stomped on, brought back to life and stomped on again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What happened? How did one of the most anticipated movies of the summer become one of Disney\u2019s worst investments?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One can argue that this project was doomed from the start.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What made the <span style=\"color: #000000;\">1994\u2019s <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0110357\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lion King<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so special was the use of 2D animation. With this 2019 remake and the use of photorealistic animals, facial expressions and body movements were severely limited due to its visual realism. It made the lions and other characters look too real, to the point where it was a bit unnerving. That took the audience out of the story and became disengaging.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But that\u2019s not the only gripe viewers had with this film.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For all of her greatness and pop-cultural relevance, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyonc\u00e9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has shown time and time again that acting isn\u2019t in her skill set, which also applies to her voice acting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main issue with having someone like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyonc\u00e9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> play one of the most important characters in the film is that it takes away from the viewing experience. It\u2019s the equivalent of having Christopher Walken play Elvis. You want to believe it\u2019s Elvis Presley, but you just can\u2019t get past Walken\u2019s sunken-in stare and obvious voice. With <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyonc\u00e9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it\u2019s no different.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The way she reads her lines were dry and uninspiring, leading to the question of why was she hired in the first place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some may argue that Disney knowingly hired Queen B in order to generate more buzz for the film. Unlike other live-action adaptations, the original <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lion King<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was beloved and celebrated and, to be frank, a remake wasn\u2019t needed. Adding <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyonc\u00e9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and her legion of fans became a \u201csecurity blanket\u201d of sorts for Disney.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of these variables, the film has received a mountain of backlash for the same reasons listed above.
