Aiyana Ishmael, who served as social media director for <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> during the 2017-18 school year, was awarded the 2019 HBCU Digital Media Fellowship<\/span><\/a> as part of the <\/span>Online News Association<\/span><\/i>, a non-profit digital journalism organization.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ishmael, 22, did the three-day fellowship on <\/span>Sept. 12-14 in New Orleans. She learned about creating multimedia packages, approaches to digital reporting and worked alongside a mentor during the annual ONA conference.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJournalism is the only career I\u2019ve ever actually wanted to pursue and I think everyone struggles with not feeling good enough,\u201d said Ishmael, who earned an associate of arts degree in mass communications from Kendall Campus<\/span><\/a> in 2018. \u201cIt feels good to know your hard work isn\u2019t going unnoticed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ishmael currently serves as editor-in-chief of <\/span>Journey<\/span><\/i>, the student magazine of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. She is expected to graduate in 2021 with a bachelor\u2019s degree in broadcast journalism.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
