As November approaches, Miami Dade College shooting guard Elton Walker returns for his sophomore season with high expectations and a retooled team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The revamped roster includes three Division I transfers. The aim: to improve last season\u2019s 10-20 record that forced the Sharks to miss the postseason for the fourth consecutive year.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis year, we have a great team full of athletes and top tier players that will be able to go Division I in the years coming,\u201d Walker said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last season, the Sharks<\/span><\/a> averaged 96.4 points per game but they allowed opponents to score 98.4 points per contest. The team was affected by two key injuries: guard Kaevon Tyler sustained a knee injury in the middle of the season and forward Italo Cicotti missed the entire season after tearing his ACL.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe had to get better players and we have that now,\u201d Sharks Head Coach Kevin Ledoux said. \u201cThat\u2019s what we\u2019re trying to do. We\u2019re longer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The replenished roster includes three Division I transfers: point guard <\/span>KJ Fitzgerald<\/b> (Jacksonville University), forward <\/span>Gus Okafor<\/b> (Longwood University) and forward <\/span>Rob Johnson <\/b>(the Citadel).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Four junior college transfers: guard <\/span>Marques Watson<\/b> (Iowa Western Community College), guard\/forward <\/span>Nate Fluerrissaint<\/b> (Sante Fe College), guard <\/span>Randy Rickards <\/b>(Baltimore City Community College), and guard\/forward <\/span>Jordan White<\/b>(Chattahoochee Valley Community College). And three promising high school players: shooting guard <\/span>Richard Charles<\/b> from North Miami Senior High School, point guard <\/span>Dev Ostrowski <\/b><\/span><\/a>from<\/span> East Lyme High School in Connecticut\u00a0 and shooting guard <\/span>Bobby Miller<\/b> from Paint Branch High School in Maryland.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I can provide is shooting the ball well, getting my teammates involved, toughening up on defense, and just being an all-around player and teammate to the squad,\u201d Miller said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ledoux lost some key players from last year, including two forwards. DJ Russell, who led the team in scoring and rebounds with 19.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, transferred to <\/span>Robert Morris University Illinois. <\/span>Nicholas Kratholm, who averaged 10.2 points 6.5 rebounds per game, is playing at Niagara University in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n

But sophomore guard Elton Walker, the only returning player from last season, is expected to fill that void. He averaged 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game with a team high 56.6 shooting percentage.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a very good player, [a] very good person,\u201d Ledoux said. \u201cHe\u2019s getting recruited by several schools right now. He\u2019s a top 45 player in the country.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Walker is confident the roster overhaul has positioned the Sharks for a rebound season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to win conference and the state tournament,” Walker said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Sharks first game of the season is on the road at the Daytona Tip-Off Classic versus Denmark Technical College on Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
