Starting off in New York during the 1970\u2019s, DJs kept crowds going and, later, MC\u2019s began rhyming over beats made by those DJs. Soon we were introduced to rap icons such as Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, despite the successes of these rap artists, us fans wonder if some still belong in the modern day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take for instance these three artists: Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Eminem.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lil Wayne, also known as \u201cWeezy,\u201d released a series of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tha Carter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> albums in his long career. His highest-grossing one, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL562BD666FB18DB38\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Tha Carter III<\/span><\/a>,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was released in June 2008. It featured tracks such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Milli<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Got Money<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lollipop<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Undeniably Wayne\u2019s best album, it sold more than seven million copies across the United States. But the musician has failed to bring that heat to his other works.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In September 2018, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tha Carter V <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">made its way to the music charts with only 480,000 copies sold in the U.S. Wayne reiterates the same dope references on the album, which features some of the game\u2019s hottest artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott. After a five-year drought, the album proved underwhelming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From 2004 to 2010, Kanye West established himself as one of hip-hop\u2019s most influential and creative artists ever. With his debut album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The College Dropout<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> releasing in February 2004, it introduced a unique fashion of sonic beats and sounds that not only paved the way for hip-hop and rap, but music in general. Later, he continued releasing his stretch of classic albums like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">808\u2019s &amp; Heartbreak<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graduation<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The self-righteous rapper sat on his pedestal for some time now but, after his <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jesus Is King<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> project, he may have just knocked himself off once and for all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MBDTF<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, West has released four additional solo albums, but the top-level creativity and rhythm isn\u2019t there anymore. His lyrics on the album are as thin as sacramental bread but the power of the flashing lights may have blinded him. Unfortunately for West, he is no god.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, the one who many people refer to as \u201cThe G.O.A.T\u201d\u2014Marshall Mathers. The self-acclaimed Slim Shady skyrocketed in 1999 with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Slim Shady LP<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Make no mistake, Eminem has thrown some of the best flows and created a legacy in hip-hop and rap that is unrivaled. After his first successful studio album, Eminem continued his lyrical genius in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Marshall Mathers LP<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Eminem Show<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Encore<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Relapse<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recovery<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately, it seems that The Real Slim Shady has sat down. Eminem, 47, has been in the rap game for most of his life and, since 2012, the MC\u2019s flow and lyrics have become repetitive. Referencing modern pop culture, making quirky jokes and reciting past lines can only go so far.\u00a0 With <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Marshall Mathers LP2<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revival<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kamikaze<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, behind him we can only wonder if Mathers has anything left up his sleeve.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With these rap icons still in the game, we can\u2019t dispute they\u2019ve left a trail of prosperity and success behind them.
