Migoya, who serves as president and CEO of the <a href=\"https:\/\/jacksonhealth.org\/#gref\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Jackson Health System<\/span><\/a>, tested positive for the novel coronavirus last week, according to a statement released by the hospital.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Migoya also serves as vice chair of Miami Dade College\u2019s Board of Trustees. He attends monthly Board of Trustees meetings at Wolfson Campus but he has not been on campus since at least January, according to the College\u2019s spokesperson.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe wish him well,\u201d said Juan Mendieta, director of communications at MDC.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mendieta said the College will not do anything in response to Migoya\u2019s diagnosis because he hasn\u2019t been on campus in more than two months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Migoya\u2014and the other five BOT members\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdcthereporter.com\/board-of-trustees-extends-presidential-search-due-to-coronavirus-concerns\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">phoned into their last regular meeting<\/span><\/a> on March 17 because of concerns over the coronavirus. Only ten individuals were physically present at the meeting after guidelines set by the CDC limited attendance at large gatherings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He phoned into the College\u2019s February 18 meeting and in a private meeting with the College\u2019s administration in March.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Migoya was appointed to serve on the Board in April. He replaced Jose K. Fuentes as vice-chair in July.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vice-chair is currently in self-isolation at home. He does not have any symptoms but was tested after possibly being exposed to the virus, according to Migoya\u2019s statement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI chose to keep this private because I did not want to take any focus away from the nurses, doctors, technicians, environmental workers, food-service staff, and others who are putting themselves on the front lines of the crisis every day in order to serve our patients,\u201d Migoya wrote. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carlos A.
