Violinist Daniela Padr\u00f3n performed songs from her debut solo album, <\/span>Bach to Venezuela<\/span><\/i>, on May 15, live on the Koubek Center\u2019s\u00a0 <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Facebook<\/span><\/a> pages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The performance brought together more than 100 viewers. They showered her with virtual applauses and heart emojis as she played the violin at home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The concert was originally scheduled to be in person at the Koubek Center<\/span><\/a> on April 25, but was canceled due to the coronavirus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a different experience, but one that I enjoyed, [even though] we\u2019re having all of these conditions,\u201d Padr\u00f3n said. \u201cI\u2019m pretty sure that this is gonna change us forever. I just hope that it still allows the chemistry that live music has.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Bach to Venezuela<\/span><\/i> adapts instrumental pieces from Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach into different traditional Venezuelan rhythms. It reflects her desire to create a bridge between the classical and non-classical music world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Music has always been an integral part of Padr\u00f3n\u2019s family.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She was born on May 20, 1987 in Caracas, Venezuela. Her mother, Olga L\u00f3pez, is a renowned classical pianist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Padr\u00f3n, 33,\u00a0 started studying piano and violin at her mother\u2019s music school, Escuela Experimental de M\u00fasica Manuel Alberto L\u00f3pez, when she was four.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But when she was 8 years old, playing two instruments became too time-consuming. After realizing that her mother always corrected the way she played the piano, Padr\u00f3n decided to stick with the violin.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhenever I practiced the piano at home, she was like: \u2018That\u2019s not right!\u2019,\u201d Padr\u00f3n said. \u201cWhen I played the violin, she didn’t say anything. I liked the piano more to be honest, but I ended up loving the violin.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

After earning a bachelor\u2019s degree in violin performance in 2005 from the Escuela Experimental de M\u00fasica Manuel Alberto L\u00f3pez and a second bachelor\u2019s degree in business administration from Metropolitana in Caracas in 2009, Padr\u00f3n chose not to pursue music professionally.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But Padr\u00f3n kept playing the violin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She stayed in touch with her friends from music school, who eventually joined her in a seven-member rock band, Systaltic. Their ease and versatility helped her reconnect with music.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn classical music, everything is written, everything is like you have a map of the journey that you’re gonna take,\u201d Padr\u00f3n said. \u201cThe first day when I went [to practice with my rock band], my friends were like: \u2018There’s no music record here, you just start playing and that’s it.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Soon, new opportunities poured in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Folk\/pop band <\/span>Ga\u00ealica<\/span><\/i> contacted Padr\u00f3n for a gig after their violinist couldn\u2019t make a show.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Padr\u00f3n, a fan of the band, could not believe it. She stayed in contact with <\/span>Ga\u00ealica<\/span><\/i> and became an official member two years later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2013, <\/span>Ga\u00ealica<\/span><\/i> was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in the Best Folk Album category for their album, <\/span>Luz: Una Navidad Celta en Venezuela<\/span><\/i>. The band mixes Celtic and Latin rhythms with Arabic and Irish hints.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI started making a path through a different side of music,\u201d Padr\u00f3n said. \u201cThat allowed me to get to know a new musician in me. I found myself in a way that I really felt comfortable with music.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In August of 2012, Padr\u00f3n moved to Miami.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She dedicated herself to teaching young musicians in Miami and Venezuela, the latter via the Internet. Padr\u00f3n also became a conductor for a children\u2019s orchestra at the Miami Music Project.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Two years later, Padr\u00f3n formed a duo called Up a Notch with her friend C\u00e9sar Mu\u00f1oz.\u00a0 They performed at weddings and other events.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She met other musicians through Mu\u00f1oz. One of them, Juan Delgado, helped her produce <\/span>Bach to Venezuela<\/span><\/i> in 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDani is an excellent musician that has a very clear idea and vision of what she wants to accomplish in each project,\u201d Delgado said. \u201cShe commits to the projects 100 percent [and] her passion and her personality opens a lot of doors for her and the project.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Padr\u00f3n is currently working on her new album, <\/span>+58<\/span><\/i>. The album, named after Venezuela\u2019s area code, will comprise purely of music from her homeland.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDaniela is a true artist,\u201d Delgado said. \u201cHer career as a recording artist is just starting, and I have no doubt that there is a lot to be seen from her.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
