He was sworn in at the July 21 BOT meeting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs an MDC alumni, it&#8217;s an honor to come back to where it all started,\u201d Alonso said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since September of 2019, he\u2019s worked as vice president of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">business development at Costa Realtors Corp.\u2014a real estate firm in Miami Lakes<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alonso previously served as director of partnerships and solution engineering at SchoolMint Inc., a software company for K-12 schools based in San Francisco. He has been part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamidade.gov\/planning\/planning-advisory-board.asp\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Miami-Dade County Planning Advisory Board<\/span><\/a> since 2018.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He earned an associate in arts degree from MDC in 2002 and a bachelor\u2019s degree in business administration with a focus on management information systems from Florida International University in 2003.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He replaces <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Benjam\u00edn Le\u00f3n III, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdcthereporter.com\/questions-of-transparency-arise-in-miami-dade-colleges-presidential-search\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">announced his registration in January after citing work constraints<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Roberto Alonso to Miami Dade College\u2019s Board of Trustees.\u00a0 Alonso was appointed to a four-year term.
