Now, the highly anticipated album is here with the group decked out in silver-paint and chrome-colored attire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Formed in 2011 with frontman Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Abels, bassist Michael Margott, and drummer Brandon Fried, The Neighbourhood<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">broke onto the mainstream in 2012 with the release of their EP <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m Sorry <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">featured the hit single <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sweater Weather<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Mixing moody hip-pop, 90s alternative-rock and reaching number one the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in 2013, they immediately grew a massive fanbase.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since then, they have released three studio albums: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I Love You. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2013), <em>Wiped Out!<\/em> (2015), and their self-titled album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Neighbourhood <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2018).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chip Chrome &amp; The Mono-Tones <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">follows Rutherford&#8217;s life experiences with a modern, futuristic dystopian twist. While developing the album he took a nine month break from social media to get a hold of what music and his band meant to him. He completes the album with the silver-clad, spandex-wearing alter ego he spent three years developing, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chip Chrome<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In creating the persona, Rutherford took inspiration from David Bowies\u2019 persona <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ziggy Stardust<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBowie was Ziggy, and Ziggy was a character very addicted to cocaine\u2014and I would say that Chip is addicted to the internet, a product of addiction from social media for so many years,\u201d Rutherford told <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/music.apple.com\/nz\/album\/chip-chrome-the-mono-tones\/1525010103\">Apple Music<\/a><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The eleven-track album starts with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chip Chrome, a<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 32-second sci-fiesque track inspired by the 1971 George Lucas film THX 1138. It\u2019s an introduction that takes listeners into an alternate universe as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chrome<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> falls into earth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pretty Boy <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is my favorite track on the album. It\u2019s a sweet, heartfelt love song reflecting on the importance of having a significant other. Though the lyrics seem so simple, \u201cEven if the earth starts shaking \/ You\u2019re the only one worth taking with me,\u201d Rutherford translates emotion not with the words he says but with the way he says them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Jir-WItz1OI\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">music video<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pretty Boy<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, fans get the first glimpse of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chrome<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as he wanders the streets of Los Angeles struggling as an artist. Some fans speculate the music video is a representation of The Neighbourhood\u2019s career and how they have come to terms with not being in the spotlight like they once were when <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sweater Weather<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was first released.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lost in Translation <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the most standout song in the album with its funky upbeat pop sound, ditching their usual sad boy vibe sound.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Devil\u2019s Advocate<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> finds Rutherford singing about fame and slowing down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mono-Tones <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the album\u2019s halfway point. The tune is a high-pitched, one-minute interlude that complains about voices \u201cmakin\u2019 too much noise.\u201d <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mono-Tones <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are the voices that are always in Rutherford&#8217;s head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BooHoo <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is about Rutherford dealing with insecurities in his current relationship with social media influencer Devon Carlson. Before meeting her, he was the main character in his life. He had to learn how to be a co-star when being in a relationship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Silver Lining <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tobacco Sunburst <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are undoubtedly dispiriting and have an emphasis on lost happier days and memories, summing-up in true Neighbourhood fashion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chip Chrome &amp; The Mono-Tones<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is one of my favorite albums to release in 2020. The sci-fi concept behind the album makes it a cinematic listening experience.
