{"id":23067,"date":"2020-10-20T12:08:40","date_gmt":"2020-10-20T16:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mdcthereporter.com\/?p=23067"},"modified":"2020-11-10T14:49:31","modified_gmt":"2020-11-10T19:49:31","slug":"the-wrong-number-blends-a-plethora-of-genres-to-create-their-own-unique-sound","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/the-wrong-number-blends-a-plethora-of-genres-to-create-their-own-unique-sound\/","title":{"rendered":"The Wrong Number Blends A Plethora Of Genres To Create Their Own Unique Sound"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrongnumber.net\/\">The Wrong Number<\/a><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> isn\u2019t just a catchy name for a rock band, it\u2019s a vision and movement for four young artists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Benjamin Caserta<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Vocals), <\/span><b>Nick Sintes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Guitar), <\/span><b>Arkii Cala<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Bass), and <\/span><b>Matt Plasencia <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Drums) had no idea that their attempt at a rock band would blossom into what it is now. They have <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/5CFbn1whg8Ehr7TNHHmnuO?si=xYPzjzZORqS4jTdQuG6VFQ\">two albums, four singles<\/a><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and have played at more than a dozen venues from Miami to New Orleans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Miami-based quartet blends a plethora of genres to produce their own sound. They take inspiration from alternative-rock, hard rock, and hip-hop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their story starts in late 2015. That is when Caserta was sitting in his high school biology class and Cala posted on Instagram that he was itching to start a band. Caserta approached him the next day and they formed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saturday Night Special<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Two years later that band became <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wrong Number.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plasencia joined the band in 2017 after his guitarist and lead singer ditched him at a venue. Soon after, a friend referred Sintes to Caserta to fill the role of guitarist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally, they began as a metal band, but as new members arrived, so did new styles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEveryone in the band likes a variety of music genres, and the different influences really come through in our music,\u201d Cala said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, Caserta\u2019s musical inspirations are as varied as Frank Sinatra and Frank Ocean.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bandmates attend Florida International University, and Plasencia works as an electrician full-time. But they managed to release a brand-new EP titled <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s Almost As If<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Aug. 24 that consists of five songs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their gumption has allowed them to build a loyal fan base in the South Florida music scene ever since their first performance at Tea and Poets, a popular caf\u00e9 in South Miami at The Shops at Sunset Place, in 2017.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI have been to so many of their live performances. Somehow the atmosphere is always different than the last, but, in a good way,\u201d said Sean McCormick, a Kendall Campus student. \u201cThey always manage to engage the audience and express their passion through their performance.
