Monique O. Madan, who served as editor-in-chief of <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> during its inaugural year in 2010, has been hired as a full-time reporter at the <\/span>Miami Herald<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Madan, 22, is covering Coral Gables and Doral. She started her new position on August 18. <\/span><\/p>\n

This past summer, she interned at <\/span>The New York Times<\/span><\/i> on the metro desk. The previous summer she interned at <\/span>The Dallas Morning News, <\/span><\/i>working in the criminal justice cluster. <\/span><\/p>\n

Madan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Emerson College in May. While in Boston, she worked at the <\/span>Boston Herald<\/span><\/i> and part-time at <\/span>The Boston Globe<\/span><\/i>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Before moving to Boston, Madan served as a part-time breaking news reporter for the <\/span>Miami Herald <\/span><\/i>from August 2009 until September 2012. She also worked as a web producer for the <\/span>Herald<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>El Nuevo Herald<\/span><\/i>. <\/span><\/p>\n

In January of 2012, Madan participated in <\/span>The <\/span><\/i>New York Times<\/span><\/i> Student Journalism Institute in Tucson, Arizona. She was one of 23 students selected for the program during a national search.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i>, Madan served as editor-in-chief of <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school year\u2019s. <\/span>She won six Florida College System Activities Association awards during her tenure at the paper including first-place honors in: news Story, feature story and the editorial writing category. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for <\/span>The Reporter <\/span><\/i>and God<\/span>,<\/span><\/i> I wouldn\u2019t have achieved what I have today,\u201d Madan said.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
