Oscar Loynaz has been appointed as the new president of Homestead Campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Loynaz, whose first day was Dec. 1, will offer administrative support for the campus and ensure students are getting the resources they need to succeed.<\/span><\/p>\n

He replaces Jeanne Jacobs, who retired on Nov. 30<\/a><\/strong><\/span> after 15 years at Miami Dade College.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI’m very excited,\u201d Loynaz said. \u201cBeing new here, I’m looking around and trying to meet everyone and trying to get the feel for the campus and the students.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Loynaz, who most recently served as the College\u2019s vice provost for workforce programs and professional learning, joined MDC in 2018 as dean of the School of Health Sciences at Medical Campus. Later that year, he served as interim president of the campus for five months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to MDC, he worked at Florida International University for 18 years, including stints as an adjunct professor at the Center for Gender and Women’s Studies and director of Student Health Services. He has also worked in the pharmaceutical and mental health care industries in Miami and New York.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1976, Loynaz attended the Universidad Central del Este\u2014a private university located in <\/span>San Pedro de Macor\u00eds<\/span>, Dominican Republic\u2014where he received a <\/span>pre-universitario<\/span><\/i>, the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree, in medicine. He also earned a medical degree from the Universidad Centro de Estudios Tecnologicos in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 1982.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
