Hialeah Campus will host <\/span>Racism and Its Effects on Society, <\/span><\/i>an online presentation about how racism is shaping American history. It will be held via <\/span>Blackboard Collaborate<\/span><\/a><\/span> on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event will feature Jane Elliott, an educator, author and award-winning anti-racism activist. She is known for crafting the Blue Eyes\/Brown Eyes Exercise, which exposes students to the experience of being a minority.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s to inform young people about what happens if you don’t pay attention in your community,\u201d Elliott said. \u201cAnd you see the things that are happening to people who are different from yourself, and you just go around thinking that everybody gets treated the same in the United States of America.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Elliott will discuss how to identify and combat racism, racial bias and how inequality has impacted our communities. She will also discuss the importance of teaching the three R\u2019s\u2014rights, respect, and responsibilities. There will also be a Q&A session.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event is free and open to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n
