The <\/span>Martyrs of February 24, 1996 Scholarship<\/span><\/i> is accepting applications until Feb. 22.<\/span><\/p>\n

The scholarship\u2014a $1,200 prize\u2014is open to Miami Dade College students who have completed at least 12 credits toward an associate\u2019s degree or certificate program by the end of the current term.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is offered in honor of Armando Alejandre, Carlos Costa, Mario de la Pena and Pablo Morales\u2014four men who lost their lives on a search-and-rescue mission after their airplanes were shot down by two Cuban Air Force MiG airplanes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students must complete an application, have a GPA of at least 3.0, and submit a three-page essay about the struggle for human rights in Cuba. The application should also include a copy of the student\u2019s most recent transcript or degree audit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Recipients of the scholarship will be required to attend an Award Ceremony.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
